Formentera is a small paradise, but it has a lot to discover. If you only have one day to explore it, don’t worry: here’s a perfect itinerary to make the most of every minute, from morning to night. Get ready for an unforgettable day!
Morning: Waking up with the sun and enjoying the beach
7:30 AM – Arrival in Formentera
If you’re arriving by ferry from Ibiza, make sure to take the first boat in the morning to maximize your time. As soon as you step onto the island, rent a scooter or a bike in La Savina. It will give you the freedom to move quickly and make the most of your day.
8:00 AM – Breakfast with a view in Sant Francesc Xavier
There’s nothing better than a delicious breakfast to start the day. In the island’s capital, you’ll find charming cafés where you can enjoy coffee with ensaimada or toast with tomato and ham. If you prefer something healthier, you can also opt for a smoothie and avocado toast.
9:00 AM – Ses Illetes Beach
Your first stop should be the iconic Ses Illetes Beach, known for its crystal-clear waters and white sand. Spend a couple of hours soaking up the sun, swimming, and marveling at the landscape. If you’re up for it, you can go snorkeling or rent a kayak to explore the area. Don’t forget to walk along the shore and feel the soft sand under your feet, as it is considered one of the best beaches in Europe.
Midday: Adventure and a Mediterranean-flavored lunch
12:00 PM – Visit to La Mola Lighthouse
After the beach, head to La Mola Lighthouse, perched on top of a cliff. It’s a perfect spot for panoramic photos and admiring the vastness of the sea. This lighthouse has inspired writers and artists, such as Jules Verne, and remains an emblematic point of the island. If you’re lucky, you’ll find the local artisan market and take home a unique souvenir crafted by local hands.
1:30 PM – Lunch in Es Caló de Sant Agustí
Time to recharge with a typical meal at one of the restaurants in Es Caló. Don’t miss the fresh fish or a delicious paella with sea views. You can also try “bullit de peix,” a traditional fish stew. If you prefer something lighter, opt for an “ensalada payesa,” a salad with potatoes, peppers, and dried fish, perfect for the summer weather.
Afternoon: Exploring coves and relaxation
3:00 PM – Cala Saona, a paradisiacal spot
After lunch, head to Cala Saona, one of the most beautiful coves on the island. Here, you can take another swim, rent a paddleboard, or simply relax on the sand while enjoying the scenery. If you feel like walking a bit, you’ll find small natural caves and viewpoints where you can admire the turquoise sea.
5:00 PM – Discovering Estany des Peix
On your way back, make a stop at Estany des Peix, a tranquil lagoon where you’ll see small boats and enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to unwind before the last part of the day. For a different experience, some companies offer kayak tours around the lagoon, a fun way to explore this lesser-known area.
Night: Sunset and a special dinner
7:00 PM – Sunset at Cap de Barbaria
The best spot to watch the sunset in Formentera is Cap de Barbaria, with its famous lighthouse. It’s a magical place where the sun disappears over the horizon, creating an unforgettable spectacle. If you walk a bit further, you can visit Cova Foradada, a cave with a natural opening that offers spectacular views of the sea.
9:00 PM – Dinner in Es Pujols
To end the day on a high note, enjoy dinner in Es Pujols, the island’s most vibrant nightlife area. You can try delicious lobster, a variety of tapas, or a tasty black rice dish. Some restaurants offer live music, making the experience even more special.
10:30 PM – Night stroll or drinks
If you still have energy, take a night stroll along the Es Pujols promenade. And if you’re in the mood for something livelier, there are bars with live music or beach bars where you can have a drink before heading back. Some places serve cocktails with local ingredients, such as “Hierbas de Formentera,” a sweet and aromatic drink that’s worth trying.
Formentera in a day is an intense but wonderful experience. In just a few hours, you can discover paradise-like beaches, breathtaking landscapes, and delicious cuisine. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve lived a dream and will surely want to return to keep exploring this Mediterranean gem. See you next time, Formentera!
